I have been reading some of the released information from the Müeller indictments. They point out how Russian hackers magnified the extremists on both sides in order to make their view more mainstream.
They also fed conspiracy theories about Hillary and helped Trump by fomenting the “fake news” tags.
Which should make all of us stop and re-evaluate how much of what we think we know is actually true. I am not speaking about subjects like gravity, etc. I am speaking about the constant barrage of conspiracy theories and insults that push us toward unthinking opposition to those with whom we disagree. Much of that has been fed by the Russian bots.
The challenge is to try to stop that type of unthinking reaction and return to some type of principled discussions and disagreement.
It means that your first response cannot be, “you only say that because you are liberal/conservative,” or similar phrases. It means that you may have to consider the possibility of changing your mind on a subject or at least considering a working compromise to allow the country to move forward.
So long as unthinking uncompromising stances are the norm, so long will the Russians be winning. Oh, and I would also drop the word narrative completely. It is not my/your narrative. It is my/your considered opinion. Calling it my/your narrative only communicates that you/I are thinking while I/you are parroting a line.
