OK, why does the drawing above spell out pizza?
If I remember correctly, pi x radius squared equals the area of a circle. The line z equals the radius. The dots between letters are another way to indicate multiplication. The a indicates the area, which would be written as a number of units (inches, cm, other?) squared.
