I love reading. My wife loves reading. Maybe that is why we fell in love. Thirty-five years after our marriage and over thirty-seven years since we met, I must admit that it is difficult to parse all the reasons we fell in love. But, most certainly one of them was because we both love reading. We like many of the same books, and neither of us is much for reading poetry and non-fiction.
We are fortunate in that all our daughters love to read. When they were children we read a chapter a night to them out of a couple of series. They listened to the series night after night. One of my fondest memories is of the time that they were small enough that we read to them. I wish that I had a way to read to our grandchildren so that they, too, could experience the joy of reading and imagination.
I admit to being a geek. Science fiction and fantasy are my preferred genre. I have also added the current craze that has to do with vampires and werewolves. However, I am not a zombie fan. After all, how much dialogue can one have with a zombie?
I encourage all of you to support reading. If you wish to have imaginative children, then read to them and encourage them to read back to you. I am convinced that reading and encouraging the imagination of a child is a good way to end up with a child who is knowledgeable and balanced.

Father, a few years ago I found these simple children’s books at Hallmark that actually record your voice reading to your child/grandchild…plopped my money right down for that very reason…my grandsons can have me reading to them!
