Whatever your viewpoint on laws concerning guns, you must admit that Texans have a rather old-fashioned view about thieves. So, my question is, in modern Texas, is the theft of a large flat-screen TV equivalent to stealing your horse in old Texas?
Laws in Texas are rather, uhm, “open-minded” on the defense of spouses, home, and property. It does not surprise me either that the gentleman went after the thief, nor that the thief thought it wiser to follow directions and quietly wait for the arrival of the police. It also speaks to Texas law and custom that the police thought nothing of a civilian holding a thief at shotgun point on a public street.
I am, however, very very glad that the man did not open fire, but acted in a calm and rational manner.
