This comic brings back memories of being a parent. My wife and I are empty nesters now. While at first many years ago, it was an odd adjustment not having any children around, we have become quite accustomed to not having people dependent on us around all the time.
Nowadays we watch our daughters with our grandchildren and wonder how we ever had all the energy that our daughters and sons-in-laws seem to have. I cannot imagine keeping up the schedule that they keep up on a daily basis. And, yet, I can remember that this was the same schedule that we kept up when we were their age.
Sometimes I wish we had had the maturity of experience that we now have when we were younger. But, when I see our daughters and sons-in-law raising our grandchildren, I can quite well understand why God decided that having lots of bodily energy might have been more important than having lots of wisdom. Having said that, we can see our daughters and sons-in-law growing in wisdom and stature day by day as they raise our grandchildren. It is a wondrous process when one observes it from a distance.
Isaiah says that God’s wisdom is far beyond our understanding. Oddly enough, I can fully understand that Scripture when I see how our children are raising our grandchildren. Yes, he was wise in the way in which he designed the universe. May God grant me wisdom, as I grow older, so that I may understand his ways better. May God bless our children as they bring up our grandchildren in the fear and knowledge of the Lord.
