I hope that you like the new look for this blog. It was designed by P12 Media. Please go to their website and give them plenty of business. One of their owners is a frequent reader of the InternetMonk. OK, two questions for you on the new media. Why is a butterfly included? What is the fruit where it says, Welcome to the OrthoCuban and why is it included? If you notice any glitches or anything missing, please drop me an email.
Fr Huw says
(Singing the song from Sunday school) “Bull frogs and butterflies have both been born again…” And that there is a Passion flower. Three nails, though: not four like in the Eastern style 🙂
Looks a little fruity. (I should know…)
Fr. Ernesto Obregon says
Yep, you have it, but not from the Sunday School song. Would you believe that Saint Basil used the butterfly as one of his examples of resurrection? And, though little mentioned, one of the frequent carvings in the catacombs was the butterfly.
The Passion fruit reminds me of my Latino heritage. It is native to South America, though it is now grown in many parts of the world. The name was given to it by Roman Catholic missionaries who said that:
The three stigmas were to reflect the three nails in Jesus’s hands and feet.
The threads of the passion flower were believed to be a symbol of the crown of thorns.
The vine’s tendrils were likened to the whips.
The five anthers represented the five wounds.
