Gov. Palin is going right after Sen. Biden, while, so far, Sen. Biden is being much more cautious with Gov. Palin. (In passing, the moderator is a very strict time-keeper, and, so far, she is asking the hot-button questions for both sides.)
Now here is something unexpected! Both sides just spoke out for civil rights for committed adults to choose what relationships they may have while being against redefining marriage as anything but one man and one woman. In fact, the moderator just congratulated them for agreeing on something. The whole audience laughed.
With regards to foreign policy, the rather ridiculous audience reaction graph dropped to its lowest point when Gov. Palin accused the Democrats of having a “white flag” strategy. That will not be a winning phrase with them. Sen. Biden finally came back strongly at Sen. McCain and is starting to go after him. His attacks on the Iraq policy and for a stronger Afghanistan were extremely powerful and cogent. Gov. Palin is showing some strong phrases of her own. But, she may be making the mistake of using too many stock phrases when she attacks Sen. Obama.
One of the points of attack has been in the area of diplomacy with possible “enemies.” This has been a clear area of disagreement between Republicans and Democrats, although, again, the tendency of Gov. Palin has been to lead with a “stock” attack against Sen. Obama that is not serving her well, in my opinion.
